Galway East Life Support (GELS)

Galway East Life Support (GELS) is a wonderful local charity working to eliminate the scourge of suicide in our local communities primarily through education and awareness raising. It was founded by Superintendent Gerry Roche and Arthur Carr. This is the GELS Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Galway-East-Life-Support/222449477954339

GELS staged an excellent fundraising cycle last June and I hoped to participate but was unable to do so. I committed to doing some fundraising for the charity and thus All-Stars for Life was born. On Friday week the 6th of March we will show the 1988 All-Ireland Hurling Final on a big screen in the newly opened Village Theatre at The Gate Lodge, Carrabane, just 200m from Kilconieron’s home pitch. Following that video we will have a very interesting panel discussion with All-Stars Joe Cooney, Eanna Ryan and John Commins and the 1988 manager, Cyril Farrell. The panel discussion will be compered by Ollie Turner of Galway Bay FM. There will also be an opportunity for a Q&A from the audience. This will be a really interesting, engaging and fun night for the hurling fraternity in Galway.

The capacity of The Village Theatre is just 80 people and we are trying to sell out the event. Tickets for All-Stars for Life cost 20 euro and as all the participants are very kindly giving of their time freely, every cent of the proceeds will go to GELS.

GELS works closely with the GAA in East Galway to help tackle suicide and I would be very grateful if your club could support the event by publicising it amongst your members and on your Facebook pages and perhaps buying some tickets. Tickets can be bought online by clicking on this link;

It would be great if, when publicising on your Facebook pages, you were to include this link.

Thanks for your help,

Best wishes,

Ciaran Cannon TD
